Clayton Robert Meise

Clayton is a South African field guide and wildlife photographer based at Zimanga Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. His work is minimal and fine art in feel, built around negative space, natural light and the country his subjects move through, giving a single animal room to breathe. Guiding and photography ask the same two things of him: respect for the animals he spends his days with, and the patience to wait for a moment rather than force one. Clayton has little interest in technical perfection or gear talk, favouring behaviour that unfolds as though the camera were not there, and his images carry the quiet of the hours spent waiting for them. Whether he is behind the lens or leading guests through the bush, the intention is unchanged: to show people the honest beauty of the wild without disrupting its rhythm.
